Making origami has been fun! However, I have learned it is also very difficult. Making just one slightly wrong fold can ruin the entire sculpture. Everything always needs to be precise, otherwise it ends up looking very messy. I have also learned how to make a beautiful crane. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I attempted to make a rose but it looked very messy. I tried to make a lily but I couldn’t figure out how to make it. Every sculpture I made started with the same folds. I still have far to learn about origami and I still need to try out different kinds of origami sculptures.

I have faced many challenges and problems when making origami but I have overcome them in the end. I have made many mistakes when making origami and had to re-do the entire thing which got a little annoying. You can’t just erase your mistakes like a pencil on a paper, you have to throw the paper away and start over again. Making the rose was the most difficult because there are so many small and challenging folds that must be done and I’m not very good with my hands. I hope to make many more different sculptures in this learning process.

For my Genius Hour Project, I chose the topic Origami because I am not very good
with arts and crafts. I would like to try a new art because I’m not very
artistic with drawing or painting. I’m hoping to gain knowledge of where origami
was created. I always thought it was originated in Japan, but it was actually
originated in China. I would still like to know if origami is taught in schools
in Japan or if the children are taught it by their parents. I have always been
somewhat interested in origami and now that I have the chance to create these
beautiful sculptures by folding paper, I don’t want to give up the opportunity.

So far, I have learned a lot about the history of origami and it’s pretty
interesting. I haven’t actually started making origami yet, but I will very
shortly. I want to be able to make the paper cranes by the end of this project
because it is very common, popular, and beautiful. My main source for research
on this topic was http://library.thinkquest.org/5402/history.html  When I start making
my origami I’m most likely going to watch YouTube videos because I am able to
see the way the person is folding the origami, like the one below. I’m excited
to see how my project will turn out!
