Working with origami has been an enjoyable and entertaining experience. I have finished all my research on origami and also attempted to make different models of origami, most I have succeeded in. However, some I had a difficult time with. I tried multiple times but eventually I gave up. I will continue to practice making origami so I can get better. In the future, I will be able to use my skills with origami to teach it to others and also make it in my free time. I am still a beginner but when I get better with practice, I want to start making my own models instead of watching YouTube videos to help me.

Genius hour has been a fun yet educational way to learn. This project has taught me a lot. I didn’t know I was able to fold so well. I learned new things about myself that I probably wouldn’t have learned if I never did this project. Making origami may be difficult but it is great entertainment. However, I felt it was frustrating at times when I kept trying but failed. I am beginning to prepare for my presentation to the class and I hope everyone tries to make origami afterwards and enjoy it just as much as I did.

I have made a power point on my research.

My perspective on making origami has changed. At first, before trying to make origami, I thought with practice it would become easy but every time I make a new sculpture it is still difficult for me. However, making paper cranes got easier as I kept making them. I learned that you don’t just need to be good with your hands; you also must be patient because learning to make origami can take up a long time especially with starters. When I first started, it took me about an hour to finish one paper sculpture but now it takes me about twenty minutes to make one sculpture. I think I am getting a lot better than when I first started.

The best resource I have been using is YouTube because I can follow along with the video and I can see how to make the fold. With reading instructions, I get a little confused of which side to fold or how to exactly fold it. It also takes time to make origami so if you plan on trying it out you need time on your hands and patience or else you will just give up because if you rush it, it looks sloppy as I have learned.

Making origami has been fun! However, I have learned it is also very difficult. Making just one slightly wrong fold can ruin the entire sculpture. Everything always needs to be precise, otherwise it ends up looking very messy. I have also learned how to make a beautiful crane. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I attempted to make a rose but it looked very messy. I tried to make a lily but I couldn’t figure out how to make it. Every sculpture I made started with the same folds. I still have far to learn about origami and I still need to try out different kinds of origami sculptures.

I have faced many challenges and problems when making origami but I have overcome them in the end. I have made many mistakes when making origami and had to re-do the entire thing which got a little annoying. You can’t just erase your mistakes like a pencil on a paper, you have to throw the paper away and start over again. Making the rose was the most difficult because there are so many small and challenging folds that must be done and I’m not very good with my hands. I hope to make many more different sculptures in this learning process.

For my Genius Hour Project, I chose the topic Origami because I am not very good
with arts and crafts. I would like to try a new art because I’m not very
artistic with drawing or painting. I’m hoping to gain knowledge of where origami
was created. I always thought it was originated in Japan, but it was actually
originated in China. I would still like to know if origami is taught in schools
in Japan or if the children are taught it by their parents. I have always been
somewhat interested in origami and now that I have the chance to create these
beautiful sculptures by folding paper, I don’t want to give up the opportunity.

So far, I have learned a lot about the history of origami and it’s pretty
interesting. I haven’t actually started making origami yet, but I will very
shortly. I want to be able to make the paper cranes by the end of this project
because it is very common, popular, and beautiful. My main source for research
on this topic was http://library.thinkquest.org/5402/history.html  When I start making
my origami I’m most likely going to watch YouTube videos because I am able to
see the way the person is folding the origami, like the one below. I’m excited
to see how my project will turn out!

Schools do in fact kill creativity because students are expected to all learn the same things and listen to what their teacher is saying. If they do not listen, the teacher will automatically not like them and by the end of the first month of school the teacher already has chosen a favourite who will be treated better than the ones who feel as if they should be working on things that interest them. Those students who are not the teachers favourites will most likely end up being close to failing.
Schools are like factories. The students are divided by the year they were born, they fill students up with information, and by the time students get to high school they are divided into what they are good at by the classes they've chosen. Once the students leave the factory a.k.a. the school, they go their different paths and don't even use most of the information that they were taught in school. When students are in kindergarten they are filled with creativity and imagination but as the years of school go by, their creative minds die out. Without creativity what do students have? They are just sitting in a desk doing what they are told. Then they are left to go out in the world and know exactly what to do when in reality the things they learned were stuff that wouldn't even happen in real life scenarios. For example when will you ever need to use all that algerbra you learned in school? So basically, schools kill creativi

Hi, my name's Gurjot and I am fifteen years old. I made this blog for my planning class. My favourite class would have to be drama because even when you're working it's fun! My least favourite class is social studies because I think it is boring. In my free time I enjoy baking cakes, cupcakes, cookies, muffins, etc. I enjoy watching tv shows like The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, 90210, and Degrassi. I also enjoy listening to music. My favourite artists would have to be Drake and Beyoncé. My favourite book is Black and Blue Sari by Kamal Dhillon because it touched my heart and is the only book that has made me tear up. I have a big family with 8 people; my grandparents, parents, and 3 sisters. My sisters and I don't always get along like most siblings but I still love them. I'm not very sure of what I want to be when I'm older but I want to explore the different options that I do have. I'm a very honest, kind and outgoing person. I love to be with my friends and just have a good time together.
I hate trying new things but once I do it, I most likely love it! My favourite kind of food is either Indian or Italian. I am in love with chocolate and I really like caffeine drinks. I don't play any sports but I like swimming because I find it relaxing. One day, I want to travel to Paris because it seems very beautiful and I want to see the Eiffel Tower.
